Speyburn, a speyside single malt with the heritage of 120 years. The whisky was produced first on 15th December,1897. Founder John Hopkins discover a unique place in the heart of speyside, ideal for making exceptionally amazing whisky and also brought an innovative spirit and the determission to do that. Currently, the distillery is owned by Inver House who also owned Old Pulteney and An Cnoc.
Source of water for speyburn is Granty Burn -an untouched hidden stream in secluded Speyside Valley. John Hopkins knew that pure water of this burn would produce a remarkable whisky with natural character. Over 120 years of his founding, Speyburn is only distillery use the pure, crystal-clear water of the Granty Burn.
Speyburn is the only distillery in Scotland which retains 'drum maltings' and is the one of very few distilleries to use traditional 'warm tubes' to condense spirit vapour into liquid, adding complexity to the final product.
Speyburn single malt 10 years is the classic style of speyburn collection and the iconic too as that was the first bottle launched by the distillery. The 10 years old liquid in the bottle is being matured in ex-bourbon cask and finishes in ex-sherry cask. The spirit has a lot of influences from the barrel thus you can find notes of citrus(more orange), toffee, butterscotch and finish with liquorice and essence of vanilla. Some people find smoke influence in speyburn 10 years; however there is no peat is used in making spirit.
80% of the spirit produced by speyburn distillery has been sent at Inverhouse's headquarters and remaining 20% is being filled up in the cask for single malt production.
#drummalting : This is the modern method of malting the barley. Initially, the drum which holds the malt is continuously rolling until the full process of malting is being done.
