The Macallan Distillery
The Macallan whisky is a product of the Macallan Distillery, a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray Scotland. The Macallan Distillery Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Edrington Group since 1999 after they acquired the company from Highland Distillers. Today, The Macallan single malt is one of the top five best-selling single-malt whiskeys in the world.
The company was originally founded in 1824, the Macallan Scotch whisky being one of the first distilleries in Scotland having legal licenses for manufacturing and selling alcohol. Since then, the distillery has grown to be one of the largest single malt whiskey manufacturers in the world.
Reason Behind The Name
The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer, and a teacher. The name Macallan is derived from the Gaelic word ‘Magh’, which means ‘a fertile land’, and ‘Ellan’ that honors St.Fillan’, a monk who spread Christianity in Scotland during the 18th century.

The Macallan 12 Years - Sherry Cask
Discharged as a major aspect of Macallan's ever-magnificent Sherry Oak run comes this 12 Year Old. It has spent its whole development in sherry-prepared oak barrels from Jerez and is bottled at 40% ABV after its 12 years of maturing. It's brimming with each one of those trademark dried products of the soil notes we've come to know and love from a sherried Macallan.
The distillery has several ranges dedicated solely to casks and showcasing what they can do with them. This includes collections such as Sherry Oak, Double Cask, and Triple Cask, all of which take interesting and fresh looks at how casks are used.
Tasting Notes
It opens with a nose of sweet vanilla and oak wood. Sherry zest shows up and includes a smidgen of warmth that supplements the oak impeccably. The flavors are extremely mind-boggling and drawn out, with the vanilla forming into caramel and fudge. The sense of taste is similarly rich and sumptuous. More oak wood with traces of sherry and cinnamon wrapped up with dried foods grown from the ground.
The main thing that lets it down on the sense of taste is that it is very flimsy and ailing in a thick, exquisite mouthfeel. In any case, the general flavors are brilliant, with more oak and warmth from the zest. It gets done with long notes of wood and nutmeg, with oranges and raisins at its heart.
A splendid case of Macallan malt and the incredible things they can do with containers, this 12 Year Old Sherry Oak Scotch ought to be a staple in any very much supplied drinks bureau.
